What is an SSID?
SSID stands for Service Set Identifier and is the name of the wireless network you see in your device’s Wi-Fi menu. The SSID bridges your wireless devices to the wired network. How to create an SSID
To create a new SSID, sign in at dashboard.meter.com and go to Wireless → SSIDs. Click Add SSID to open the configuration panel on the right..png?fit=max&auto=format&n=BkBhGE86q4Y790CV&q=85&s=57ce6347676a613b47ab4b0ecf88ccd2)

Config
- Enabled — Toggle ON to enable the SSID.
- SSID — The Wi-Fi network name users will see.
- Broadcast — Choose Hidden or Visible. If hidden, users must manually enter the SSID on their devices.
- Guest SSID — If this is a guest network, toggle ON and credentials will display at
http://guest.meter.network
. - VLAN — VLAN that clients join after connecting.
- 2.4 GHz — Enable/disable the 2.4 GHz broadcast. Meter typically recommends DISABLED unless there’s a specific use case.
- 5 GHz — Enable/disable the 5 GHz broadcast. This should almost always be ENABLED.
- Access Point Enablement — Broadcast on all APs or a subset (include/exclude lists).

Security
- Enable Security — If Disabled, any device can join. If Enabled (recommended), choose a security type (WPA2 or WPA3 for most cases). Enterprise options and RADIUS MAC auth require a third-party RADIUS server. See Network-wide → RADIUS Profiles.
- 802.11w — Protects management frames. With WPA2, “optional” mode may be needed for legacy clients. WPA3 clients generally support 802.11w.
Technologies
- 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) — MW08 APs support Wi-Fi 6. Disable to force Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) for incompatible clients.
- RADIUS CoA — If using RADIUS, enable Change of Authorization and select the CoA port.
- 802.11r — Fast roaming (enable only if your clients support it).
- 802.11k — Assists roaming by sharing neighbor reports.
- 802.11v — Assists roaming with network-directed steering.
- Client Isolation (coming soon) — Isolates clients from the LAN (internet-only access). Common for guest networks.
- Client Steering (coming soon) — Assists with balancing clients across APs.
Scheduling
Use scheduling to automatically enable an SSID during specific time windows and disable it at other times.
