Host Monitoring allows the Meter Security Appliance to check in with remote hosts via ICMP (ping) to ensure the hosts are still responding/up. Meter uses a few default remote hosts to calculate ISP quality and control WAN failover.Host monitoring can also be used to check on the health status of remote resources (ie, AWS/Azure infrastructure, cloud VOIP providers, etc.)
To see the current status of all of your hosts, log in to dashboard.meter.com and navigate to Network > Insights > Host monitoring.
AvailabilityThe availability of every host from the perspective of each WAN port on each Meter Security Appliance is shown here. Green indicates that all ICMP requests were responded to. Yellow or Red indicates that there was some loss. Gray indicates complete loss. A time filter is also available if more history is needed. On the Right-hand side, each host is listed with an indication of whether it is being used for Failover calculations.
Enabled - Toggle on to enable host monitoring for the host. If disabled, host monitoring will not run on the host.Host - The public IP address used for the host monitoring test.Description - Optional field for info about the host.Use for WAN Failover - If toggled ON, this host will be used in ISP quality calculations. If toggled OFF, host monitoring will still run on this IP, but the results will not be considered for WAN Failover.
To remove a host, click on the Host IP address under ‘Targets’ > Actions menu (…) > Delete
Deleting a host used for WAN Failover will alter the overall calculations for ISP Quality. If you have any questions about Host Monitoring, feel free to contact Meter Support at [email protected] or submit a ticket in the Meter Dashboard.
