Overview

AutoVPN is a native Meter solution for connecting multiple Meter networks via secure tunnels using a hub-and-spoke topology. This architecture enables organizations to securely connect a central office (hub) with multiple branch offices (spokes/members) to provide access to shared company resources.

Who can modify this feature?

  • Partner
  • Company/Network Admins with write access
  • Meter Support

Use cases

  • Branch office connectivity: Connect retail locations, satellite offices, or remote sites to a central headquarters
  • Shared resource access: Enable branch offices to access centralized servers, file storage, or databases
  • Multi-site networking: Create a unified network across geographically distributed locations

How AutoVPN works

AutoVPN uses a hub-and-spoke model where:
  • Hub: A central network that acts as the focal point for all VPN connections. All member networks connect to the hub, and the hub facilitates communication between members.
  • Members (Spokes): Branch networks that connect to the hub. Members can access resources on the hub and, through the hub, can reach other members in the same AutoVPN group.
This topology simplifies network management by centralizing connections at the hub rather than requiring mesh connectivity between all sites.

Requirements

  • Hub network must have a stable public IP address
  • All networks must be running a supported NOS version
  • VLANs must be configured with “Can be shared via AutoVPN” enabled
  • Non-overlapping IP subnets across all participating networks

Getting started

  • IPSec tunnels - Alternative for connecting to non-Meter firewalls or cloud providers
  • VLANs - Configure VLANs for AutoVPN participation
  • Firewall ACLs - Manage firewall rules for tunnel traffic
